The Bundesnetzagentur has extended the general assignment for the DECT (Digital Enhanced Cordless Telecommunications) wireless standard until the end of 2035. At the same time, the extension implements requirements relating to European harmonisation.

"This decision highlights the importance of DECT for promoting digitalisation in particular with respect to the fourth industrial revolution (industry 4.0), supply and public services and the audio and media industry," said Klaus Müller, President of the Bundesnetzagentur.

DECT, as part of the 5G technology family, plays a central role in supporting innovative applications. The DECT technology is in widespread use and has become a significant building block for a large number of advanced communications applications.

As a technology developed in Europe, DECT is a key factor contributing to Europe’s technological sovereignty. The extension of the general assignment until the end of 2035 underpins the commitment to the sustainable development and use of this innovative technology in a wide range of application areas.

The new general assignment has been published on the Bundesnetzagentur’s website at www.bundesnetzagentur.de/allgemeinzuteilungen (in German).
