The Bundesnetzagentur has today decided on the route corridor for section B between Dipperz in Hesse and Bergheinfeld West in Bavaria. The decision means that the corridor for the whole of the Fulda-Main power line from Mecklar to Bergrheinfeld West has now been approved.
The route corridor, which is approximately 102 kilometres long, starts at Dipperz substation south-east of Fulda and runs south. It runs through Fulda, Main-Kinzig, Bad Kissingen and Main-Spessart rural districts. It then turns east at Gemünden am Main and ends at Bergrheinfeld West substation.
The Bundesnetzagentur's decision follows the proposal put forward by TenneT TSO GmbH. The process involved the Bundesnetzagentur looking at various alternatives that had been proposed during the consultation with authorities and the public.
The federal sectoral planning decision, information about the project and maps can be found at www.netzausbau.de/vorhaben17-b (in German).
Next steps
The next step after federal sectoral planning is the planning approval procedure. This step involves the Bundesnetzagentur deciding on the exact route and the technical design of the power line.
Increasing transmission capacity between Hesse and Bavaria
The Fulda-Main line will be an overhead line with the option of underground cables in certain sections. TenneT has already applied for planning approval for the section between Mecklar and Dipperz.
The Fulda-Main project serves to increase the transmission capacity between Hesse and Bavaria. The line is due to go into operation in 2031.
