Bundesnetzagentur starts consultation on comparison tools in the telecommunications and energy sectors

The Bundesnetzagentur has today started a consultation on independent comparison tools in the telecommunications and energy sectors.

"Consumers should obtain comprehensive information in just a few clicks and be able to compare offers for telecommunications services and energy supplies. It is important that any comparison is comprehensible, neutral and is provided free of charge. It's the job of the Bundesnetzagentur to ensure this," said Klaus Müller, President of the Bundesnetzagentur

Independent comparison tools for consumers

Private providers of comparison tools that comply with the statutory minimum standards as set by telecommunications and energy legislation may obtain a certificate of trustworthiness, or trust mark, upon application. For the consumer this can enhance the credibility of these portals. So far, though, there has been a lack of interest in applying for the certificate.

The consultation serves to clarify the certification requirements to interested undertakings. At the same time, interested parties, market players, institutions and individuals, for instance consumer associations or researchers, should also have an opportunity to introduce their views into the discussion.

The consultation ends on 22 May 2024. The results of the consultation will be made public.

Further information on the consultation can be found (in German) at: www.bundesnetzagentur.de/vergleichsinstrumente.
