Results of August onshore wind auction
Year of issue 2023
Date of issue 2023.09.08
The Bundesnetzagentur has today published the results of the auction for onshore wind farms that closed for bids on 1 August 2023.
Auction again undersubscribed
The latest auction was again undersubscribed, although the Bundesnetzagentur had reduced the auction volume from 3,192 megawatts (MW) to 1,667 MW.
The Bundesnetzagentur received 142 bids with a total volume of 1,436 MW. One bid had to be disqualified due to a formal error; 141 bids totalling 1,433 MW were awarded. The total volume awarded following three of this year's four onshore wind auctions now stands at about 4,400 MW. This is already 35% more than the total of only around 3,200 MW in the whole of last year.
The prices of the winning bids ranged from 6.00 cents per kilowatt hour (ct/kWh) to the price ceiling of 7.35 ct/kWh. The average volume-weighted bid price was 7.32 ct/kWh, just below the price ceiling.
The regional breakdown of the sites for which bids were awarded is similar to the previous auction. The two federal states with the largest volumes awarded were again North Rhine-Westphalia (457 MW, 51 awards) and Lower Saxony (343 MW, 31 awards), followed by Schleswig-Holstein (259 MW, 25 awards) and Baden-Württemberg (88 MW, five awards).
The next onshore wind auction will close for bids on 1 November 2023.
