As a completely independent body, the Group advises the Bundesnetzagentur on matters of general regulatory importance. The Group provides the results of its discussions to the Bundesnetzagentur in the form of publicly available opinions. The Group produced Regulation policy guidelines for the Bundesnetzagentur's activities.

The Group is an interdisciplinary body comprising experts from various specialist areas related to the Bundesnetzagentur's scope of activities. It addresses the legal, economic and technical aspects of the Bundesnetzagentur's activities from a cross-sectoral perspective.

The members examine current issues in line with their respective area of research. They report on this at the meetings, provide the Bundesnetzagentur with written papers and their results are made available for inclusion in publications.

The Group normally holds six meetings a year, which are also attended by the President, Vice Presidents and other representatives of the Bundesnetzagentur.
