Fixed radio links

Fixed radio links are used more and more frequently in transmission networks for (broadband) mobile applications. The already very high density of fixed links in operation in Germany and the limited availability of (fixed link) spectrum resources mean that efficient and interference-free frequency usage is an extremely important factor in standardisation and is hence the central concern for the Bundesnetzagentur in its work within ETSI ATTM. In addition, new fixed link frequency bands above 90 GHz need to be identified and the relevant harmonised European standards developed and issued in line with market conditions (European Commission Mandate M/536).

Another focus of attention – in addition to the basic principles of open standards and interoperability – is "green IT" as referred to in the European Commission's Mandate M/462. This entails critical analysis of the energy efficiency of point-to-point links.
