Satellite News Gathering (SNG)
SNG literally describes “collecting news through satellite”. SNG is used to report from, for example, a vehicle via a satellite to a location further away. Reporting may either be broadcasted live or the recording may first be edited on location and then transmitted via satellite to the broadcasting centre. The vehicle with the production and transmission equipment is also called SNG.
SNG frequency assignments
An individual frequency assignment for the transmission of pictures and/or sound signals for broadcasting distribution at changing locations is required from the Bundesnetzagentur and may be issued with a validity up to 10 years.
A frequency assignment is issued for SNG providing that:
- the frequencies are designated for satellite service in the Frequency Plan;
- use is only permitted within an international coordinated satellite network;
- efficient and interference-free frequency use is ensured.
Frequency assignments are subject to a one-off fee (Bundesnetzagentur’s special ordinance on fees for frequency assignments (BNetzA BGebV FreqZut)) and annual contributions (Bundesnetzagentur’s ordinance on the protection of interference-free frequency use (FSBeitrV))
Gebühren (fees) und Beiträge (annual contributions) only available in German.
Department 223 is responsible for frequency assignments in satellite communications and any enquiries.
